Hard disk storage on Library computers is not permanent. While you are working on computers in the Library, you may save your progress on to the hard disk drive (which you will note is quite aptly named Here today, gone tomorrow). Files on the hard disk are regularly deleted so you should not rely on your file still being there upon your return.
Instead, at the end of your computer session, save your files onto a USB flash drive. Alternatively, you can send an email to yourself with the files added as attachments.
It is a good idea to keep multiple copies of important files and, if possible, to keep them in multiple locations such as on your home computer as well as on a USB flash drive.
Microsoft Word is the word processing application available in the Library. If you use another word processing package at home, you should save your file as Rich Text Format (RTF) and you will be able to open, edit and print in the Library.
The Rich Text Format (RTF) Specification provides a format for text and graphics interchange that can be used with different output devices, operating environments, and operating systems. RTF documents created under different operating systems and with different software applications can be transferred between those operating systems and applications.
