Law Library News

The Library has been busy over the break to bring you a whole raft of new resources and services.

New electronic resources

FirstPoint
Introducing FirstPoint, our new major online case law database. FirstPoint is an Australian case law research tool built from the extensive case law information from the Australian Digest and the Australian Case Citator. Using FirstPoint, you can easily search for reported and unreported cases - but even better, you can use their handy browse feature to find cases by subject. Like CaseBase, FirstPoint provides citation and court information, a detailed summary of the case, cases and legislation considered, plus cases and journal articles that have referred to the case.
Access FirstPoint through the Library's Databases and Articles Searching page.

More law reports and journals online
Lawbook Online has been given a boost over the break - how? With even more law reports and journals being made available. Now you can access even more state and federal report series as well key Australian law journals without leaving your computer.
You can access Lawbook Online from the Library's Databases and Articles Searching page or simply search the catalogue for the resource you are after and follow the links.
Laws of Australia now online
Another major addition to Lawbook Online is the legal encyclopaedia, Laws of Australia. You can now easily find detailed information about the law by using one of the many search options - you can search by keyword, legislation, case name, etc. But if you're a fan of the old print indexes, you can still use the subject links to easily browse by subject.
You can access Laws of Australia from the Library's Databases and Articles Searching page.

New in the Library

Express loans machines
Tired of waiting in line to borrow a book? Want to take control and do it yourself? Now you can with our two new Express Loan machines! Using these machines, you can check out books to yourself simply by passing your student card under the sensor and then doing the same with the book. You can find these machines just in front of the Lending Services Desk on level 1.

Find a free computer
Gone are the days of walking all over the Library in search of a free computer. The Library now has a machine that will do that for you. Just under the plasma screen, you'll see a lovely white monitor. Simply use the touch screen to find areas where computers are available. And speaking of computers, the Library has received more over the break, so it should be even easier to find a free one.

New swipe card system
New machines are being installed for printing and photocopying which will allow you to simply wave your card over a sensor, rather than swiping it. New autoloaders are also around which you can use to add credit to your card. You can find one of these in the Law Library just by the Reference Collection - not in the photocopy room.
