Avoid taking home a nasty surprise - check your USB drive for viruses

10/4/2008

virus All library PCs have up-to-date anti virus protection installed, and since Semester started we've noticed a sharp increase in the number of virus infections being found on patrons' USB drives. In the month of March over 1100 virus infections were blocked with over 70% of those being viruses spread from USB drives.

Did you know that most students and staff at Flinders Uni are able to install a home copy of Sophos Antivirus software for free? See here for conditions of use and access details. If you're using a public PC in the library you can check your USB drive for infections by going into My Computer, right-clicking on the drive letter of your USB drive (ie E:) and selecting Scan with Sophos Anti-virus.

Avoid the disappointment of finding your important assignment or home PC infected by a virus and practice safe computing today!
