MathSciNet is a searchable database based on the data in Mathematical Reviews and Current Mathematical Publications, leading publications that catalog and review research literature in mathematics. Lexis-Nexis

The contract for Lexis-Nexis has been renewed for 2001.

Lexis/Nexis is a US based system which provides the full text (excluding diagrams, tables and charts) from thousands of newspapers, journals, cases and legislation. It is not just another index, it makes available the contents of a huge range of journals and newspapers that may not be available in print form in the Flinders Library, or easily accessible through other libraries. While its strengths are in law, legal studies, business and medicine, it also contains a great deal of valuable material for the social sciences, humanities and the sciences. There are 2 separate databases: Lexis which contains sources concentrating on caselaw and legislation, and Nexis which includes news and business information.

Lexis

The LEXIS service contains libraries of English, Australian, New Zealand, Canadian, and South African law, as well as legal materials from Ireland and Scotland, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia.

The LEXIS service also contains major archives of US federal and state case law, continuously updated statutes of all 50 states, state and federal regulations and public records from major U.S. states. The LEXIS service has 41 specialised libraries covering all major fields of practice, including tax, securities, banking, environmental, energy and international.

The Hot Topics library contains summaries of the latest legal and regulatory developments within nearly 40 practice areas. The 2NDARY library contains ALI Restatements of the Law, ALR® and LEd2d articles and selected state jurisprudence and is a great place to start researching secondary legal research materials.

Nexis

The NEXIS service is a news and business information service which contains more than 8,700 sources, of which 3,700 provide their entire publications online. These include US regional, national and international newspapers, news wires, magazines, trade journals and business publications.

The NEXIS service also offers several thousand other news sources including The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Business Week, Fortune, and The Economist. It is a one-stop service for both national network and regional television broadcast transcripts, in addition to carrying CNN and National Public Radio news and features. Major news services of China, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the U.K., the unified Russian republics and the United States and Australia are vital sources of international business information and news. In addition, the NEXIS service contains more than 2,000 sources of abstracts including The Wall Street Journal.

A help sheet is available for accessing Lexis-Nexis via a Law Library or central library work station . There is also a help sheet for downloading articles from Lexis.

Access:

A Lexis only subscription can be accessed in the Law Library, and Lexis Nexis can be accessed either in the electronic information room in the Central Library or via Investigator, the online catalogue. Access is restricted to Flinders University staff and students. LEXIS-NEXIS Research Software Version 2.9 for Macintosh is also available for use on campus.
