What is LinkIt@Flinders?

LinkIt@Flinders is the new name for the Flinders University Library OpenURL service. It is a resource-linking technology that allows users of library databases to link directly from citations in bibliographic databases to the full text of an article (if available) and other services.

LinkIt@Flinders can provide access to the full text of an article or to local holdings in the Voyager information System, if there are any available.

Through use of the LinkIt@Flinders Citation Linker, users of the library databases are able to gain access to the full text (if available) and other services for a specific article, simply by entering the article's criteria, provided the user knows the details of the specific article they require.

How do I use LinkIt@Flinders?

As you are searching in the Flinders Library databases, look for the LinkIt@Flinders button or a link to LinkIt@Flinders. You may have to look around for the button, it doesn't appear in the same place in each database. Clicking on the LinkIt@Flinders button or link will bring up a menu of available services.

The menu that appears after clicking on the LinkIt@Flinders button has various sections, each of which is listed below, along with a short description of what it may contain. An example menu is also shown below.

Source:

This is the article's information as sent from the database. It includes the title and source of the article. This allows the addition of information that may be missing from the article's citation, in order to make the citation more complete.

Availability;

Get it now:

This is where to look to find if there are any online subscriptions to the article you have found. If there is one or more full texts available, a list of links to the article will apear. If there is more than one subscription available, choose the database from which you would like to get the full text of the article. Often, these links will take you directly to the full text of the article, but sometimes you may arrive at a table of contents, where you can then select your article.

If there is no full text available, a message will appear stating no online full texts were found for the citation.

Does the Library have it :

In this section, you can choose to search the Flinders library catalogue to find any print or microform holdings the library may have. A search of the Voyager catalogue will automatically start when you click the link.

More options :

It is also possible to search the University of Adelaide library catalogue or the UniSA library catalogue to find if those libraries have any holdings. Click on the link corresponding to which University's library catalogue you want to check for holdings, and a search will automatically start.

Search article:

This section of the menu provides links to Web of Science searches for the article or other articles by the author as well as links to Google Scholar for article title or author searches.

Note that the availability of author searches depends on the presence of the author's name in the citation information. If the author's name is not contained in the citation information, the option to search for the author will not be available.

Internet search:

Here you can automatically perform Google searches for the article title, journal/book title, or the author's name. As with the search article options above, the availability of the Google search for author name depends on whether or not the author's name is in the citation information.

• The Direct Export to EndNote link lets you quickly and easily export the article details to EndNote, which can be particularly useful if the database in which you found the citation does not provide a way of exporting the record information to EndNote.
  
  To export to EndNote:
1. Click on the Export to EndNote link.
2. EndNote will automatically open. (If an "Open with" window pops-up, choose EndNote)
3. EndNote will prompt you to choose a reference library to insert the reference into.
4. The record should appear in the reference list.
   
   
• The Ask a Librarian link provides you with an online form to send a reference request to a Flinders University librarian.

What is the LinkIt@Flinders Citation Linker?

After finding an article in a database the Flinders University Library subscribes to and keeping a record of the article details, you can connect to the specific article easily by using the LinkIt@Flinders Citation Linker and entering the article's criteria. The Article Finder creates a LinkIt@Flinders menu using the article citation information that you provide. Please note the required minimum fields that need to be submitted in order for the required article to be found.
