These webpages contain statistics and information produced by AIHW in the children and youth field. Includes links to access more information about specific topics on children and youth. Includes online versions of Australia's Welfare 2003 and Australia's Health 2004.
 
*Australian Institute of Family Studies: National Child Protection Clearinghouse
The National Child Protection Clearinghouse is an information, advisory and research unit focused on the prevention of child abuse and neglect and associated family violence. It "is funded by the Australian Government's Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs under the auspices of the Australian Council for Children and Parenting as part of the government's response to the problem of child abuse."
 
*Centre for Health Promotion
Centre for Health Promotion, Women's and Children's Hospital, Children, Youth and Women's Health Services. The website ia an initiative by the Women's & Children's Hospital directed mainly to schools. It offers brightly presented information on children's physical activity and nutritional needs as well as links to important online resources. There is also an online newsletter entitled "Virtually healthy: the newsletter for schools".
 
*Child and Youth Health
This is the award-winning site of a South Australian government-funded initiative to provide the latest news on parenting, child and youth health. It provides information on health issues and a directory of Child and Family Health Centres across the state. Excellent links to major South Australian health & welfare agencies.
 
*Child Health Surveillance an Screening : a critical review of the evidence,
NHMRC 2002, Canberra, ACT. Child Health Surveillance and Screening: A Critical Review of the Evidence was undertaken to provide a systematic review of the available evidence for screening and surveillance, topic by topic. The review considers children from birth to eighteen years of age; it does not include prenatal screening activities.
 
*Children of Parents with a Mental Illness - COPMI
"COPMI is a national project being undertaken by AICAFMHA with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. The pages on the AICAFMHA website provide background information on the national project."
*Flinders University, Department of Paediatrics & Child Health
A site describing the paediatric and child protection services provided by the Flinders Medical Centre. It also outlines the Centre's research and education efforts.
 
*Immunisation Australian Program.
An Australian, State and Territory Governments initiative. This Internet site provides information on standard childhood immunisation. It is based on accurate information available at this time and will help to make informed decisions about immunisation. Australian Government, Department of Health and Ageing.
 
*Kidsafe Child Accident prevention Foundation of Australia.
Website of The Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Australia which conducts injury prevention programs, media campaigns, provides information, develops educational resources and initiates special programs to raise awareness of child safety issues and injury prevention throughout the country.
*National Child Protection Clearinghouse
The website of an organisation dedicated to the prevention of child maltreatment. It includes online issue and discussion papers, a clearinghouse newletter, statistics, bibliographies, curriculum and training materials, information on prevention programmes in Australia, a directory of counselling services, legislation and policy documents and excellent links to organisations around the world.
*National Investment For The early Years - NIFTeY
"NIFTeY is the National Investment for the Early Years, which emerged out of the National Initiative for the Early Years that arose as an outcome of a meeting of academics, practitioners and government officials held in Canberra on March 5 1999." Their mission and objective is "to build a lifetime on the early years: ready for school ready for life."
 
*Parenting SA
Parenting SA is organisationally part of Child and Youth Health, an independent State Government health unit. The site can be searched under topic for Parent Easy Guides (PEGS) and other information in pdf format - there are three categories; Aboriginal, General and Multicultural. "The PEGs are considered the "flagship" for Parenting SA and represent a valuable information source not only for parents and those caring for children, but also professionals. They have been developed from research in conjunction with appropriate experts and are widely used throughout Australia".
*Public Health Information and Development Unit - PHIDU
"Established by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing to assist in the development of public health data, data systems and indicators. PHIDU is committed to the development of an integrated health information system in Australia that can provide information on a broad range of health determinants across the life course."
*Social health atlas of young South Australians, 2nd edn.2003.
This online publication "brings together a wide range of information about the health status and health service use of the children and young people of South Australia. The Atlas seeks particularly to illustrate linkages between socioeconomically disadvantaged areas, poorest health status and greater use of services.
 
 
*TVW Telethon Institute for Child Health Research
This is the site of a reputable research institute based at the University of Western Australia. It outlines current research projects and the publications that have been produced as a result.
 
*Women's and Children's Hospital, Adelaide
This site details the hospital's services and research and health promotion activities and provides basic health information.

*American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
This site discusses public health issues, provides basic facts for families and statistics and policy statements for professionals, gives information on clinical trials and research and has excellent links to other resouces.
 
*American Academy of Pediatrics
This site provides information on advocacy and research and contains links to current news, fulltext information on topics such as immunisation, and theorganisation's policy statements.
*Bright Futures
An excellent site produced by the National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health (U.S.). It differs from most sites by taking a preventative and health promotion approach to children's health. Specifically it describes the different developmental stages of childhood and outlines the unique health requirements at each stage.
 
*Child and Family WebGuide
"A resource for parents provided by Tufts University, Medford, MA., which describes and evaluates sites that contain research-based information about infants, children and teens."
 
*Development Behavioral Pediatrics Online - dbpeds.org
The site is aimed at professionals interested in child development and behaviour, especially in the medical setting.
 
*Health Canada
"Health Canada is the Federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health, while respecting individual choices and circumstances." The site contains an A-Z list of subject areas including pediatrics, pacifiers, child youth and family health, family violence, fetal-alcohol syndrome to name a few.
 
 
*KidsHealth.org
An award-winning, multimedia site produced by the non-profit Nemours Foundation in the United States. A reliable source of medical peer-reviewed information on topics such as infections, behaviour, food and fitness. Different sections are offered for parents, children and adolescents but the site is of equal relevance to information-seeking health professionals.
 
 
*Medscape Pediatrics
This site is a practice-oriented medical information and educational tool for clinicians and health professionals. It offers access to daily news items, practice guidelines, treatment updates, conference summaries/schedules, patient resources, extensive links to paediatric resources and an archive of fulltext articles from peer-reviewed medical journals. (A one-off registration is required).
 
 
*Ministry of Community and Social Services - Ontario

*National Institute of Child Health & Human Development
This organisation, one of the National Institutes of Health in the U.S., has produced an informative website providing the researcher with latest news releases and media information, an online clearinghouse of fulltext publications, information on national campaigns such as the SIDS "back to sleep" campaign and extensive detail on current clinical trials and epidemiological, statistical and prevention research.
