*ACP Journal Club (synopses) American College of Physicians.
A journal of highly ranked selected studies which include structured abstracts and commentaries which are star rated - the "stars are averaged scores for clinical relevance and newsworthiness from the McMaster Online Rating of Evidence (MORE) system. This Internet-based system gathers ratings of new articles, already assessed for scientific merit, from our sentinel readers, a panel of over 2000 physicians from around the world."
*Australian Centre for Evidence Based Clinical Practice - (ACEBCP)
"The ACEBCP is a joint initiative of Flinders Medical Centre Division of Medicine and the Flinders University Schools of Medicine and Nursing. Its primary aim is to facilitate best practice in health care by assisting health care professionals develop and apply the skills needed for evidence based practice (EBP)." *Bandolier electronic journal (syntheses and studies)
"The impetus behind Bandolier was to find information about evidence of effectiveness (or lack of it), and put the results forward as simple bullet points of those things that worked and those that did not: a bandolier with bullets. Information comes from systematic reviews, meta-analyses, randomised trials, and from high quality observational studies."
*Centre for Reviews and Dissemination - (CRD) (syntheses)
Based at the University of York, York, UK. The Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) was established in January 1994, and aims to provide research-based information about the effects of interventions used in health and social care. Includes the full-text of the journals Effective Health Care Bulletins and Effectiveness Matters.
* Center Watch - Clinical Trials Listing Service
This website "provides an extensive list of IRB approved clinical trials being conducted internationally. Many of these trials may be appropriate for your participation. Our web site also lists promising therapies newly approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
* CINAHL database via OVID (synopses, syntheses & studies)
To limit a search on CINAHL to evidence based sources select from the Document type limit box under More limits e.g. Systematic Review (syntheses), Clinical trials (studies), Commentary (synopses), and Research for original studies. To retrieve Meta-analysis or Qualitative studies, you need to search these as a subject and combine with your result.

CINAHL Information Systems-Library page contains a list of over 1300 peer reviewed journal indexed in CINAHL. You can also search for blind peer reviewed journals or double blinded peer reviewed journals from the site.
* Clinical Evidence (BMJ Clinical Evidence) (systems)
A compendium of the best available evidence for effective health care, published by British Medical Journal. It is a continually updated international source of available evidence on the effects of common clinical interventions. BMJ Clinical Evidence online continues to be available free to people in developing countries as part of an intiative spearheaded by the World Health Organization and the BMJ Publishing Group.
*Cochrane Library (syntheses)
The Cochrane Collaboration originally established in Adelaide and now operating worldwide. The Cochrane Library is a collection of seven evidence based healthcare databases enabling you to make informed decisions about health care.These databases can be searched simultaneously. Updated quarterly. Includes a glossary and other evidence based resources.
CDSR - Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (syntheses) Contains the fulltext of complete reviews or protocols which are reviews currently being worked upon.
DARE - Database of Reviews of Effects. (synopses of syntheses & studies) Contains bibliographic details of other selected systematic reviews (non Cochrane systematic reviews), by searching key journals, bibliographic databases, hand searching and by scanning grey literature.
CCTR - Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (studies) This is a bibliographic database of definitive controlled trials. The register provides bibliographic information (i.e. abstracts rather than full-text) for more than 350,000 reports of trials identified by contributors to the Cochrane Collaboration. Contains references only.
HTA - Health Technology Assessment database. These assessments look at the medical, social, ethical & economic implications of health technologies (eg. pharmaceuticals, vaccines, medical and surgical procedures) with a view to informing policy decisions. Includes completed and ongoing assessments.
NHSEED -NHS Economic Evaluation Database. (synopses) Contains abstracts of full economic evaluations. These are studies in which a comparison of two or more treatments or care alternatives is undertaken and in which both the costs and outcomes of the alternatives are examined.
*eMJA Medical Journal of Australia - Clinical Guidelines (synopses)
Clinical guidelines published by the MJA represent the consensus opinion of experts based on review of the scientific literature.
*EPPI-Centre - The Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and Co-ordinating Centre
"Social Science Research Unit (SSRU), Institute of Education, University of London.
The EPPI-Centre was established in 1993 to address the need for a systematic approach to the organisation and review of evidence-based work on social interventions. The EPPI-Centre is a formal partner of the Campbell Collaboration and to have co-directed the Cochrane Health Promotion & Public Health Field since 1996. "

*Joanna Briggs Institute for Evidence based Nursing & Midwifery (syntheses)
Established in 1996 as an initiative of the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the University of Adelaide " in recognition of the need for a collaborative approach to the evaluation of research and its integration into nursing practice". The site presents a section on Best practice and Systematic reviews. All full-text available to Flinders University staff and students from 2006.
*Medline database via OVID (syntheses and studies)
To limit a search on Medline to evidence based sources use the Publication limits under More limits e.g. Meta-analysis, Randomized Controlled Trial, Controlled Clinical Trial or Clinical trial, all phases. Use Clinical Queries limit box to find Therapies, Diagnosis and Prognosis, Qualitative studies, Etiology etc.
*National Guidelines Clearinghouse NGC (syntheses)
A public resource for evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. NGC is an initiative of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
*New Zealand Guidelines Group.
The site includes healthcare guidelines, evidence sources and publications including the New Zealand Evidence-based Healthcare Bulletin, a joint initiative of the New Zealand Guidelines Group (NZGG), New Zealand Health Technology Assessment (NZHTA), and the New Zealand Branch of the Australasian Cochrane Centre. The purpose of the bulletin is to summarise news and information about evidence-based healthcare activities in New Zealand and overseas..
*NICE - National Institute for Clinical Evidence (syntheses and studies)
"NICE is the independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on the promotion of good health and the prevention and treatment of ill health."
NICE produces three kinds of guidance: Technology appraisals - guidance on the use of new and existing medicines and treatments within the NHS in England and Wales.
Clinical guidelines - guidance on the appropriate treatment and care of people with specific diseases and conditions within the NHS in England and Wales.
Interventional procedures - guidance on whether interventional procedures used for diagnosis or treatment are safe enough and work well enough for routine use in England, Wales and Scotland includes full-text.

A comprehensive guide to web resources on evidence-based practice. The site includes sections on appraising, implementing, organisations, software and journals.
*NHMRC Clinical practice guidelines (syntheses)
"Contains a comprehensive range of information on Clinical Practice Guidelines for everyday Australians, including families, seniors, parents, singles, teenagers and carers; and specialist information for researchers, clinicians and other health professionals."
*PEDro: physiotherapy evidence database (studies)
"It has been developed to give rapid access to bibliographic details and abstracts of randomised controlled trials, systematic reviews and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy. Most trials on the database have been rated for quality to help you quickly discriminate between trials which are likely to be valid and interpretable and those which are not." Provides references only.
*Prodigy
"Prodigy is a source of clinical knowledge, based on the best available evidence, about the common conditions and symptoms managed in primary car". It includes a section for nurses which provides "guidance on around 200 acute and chronic conditions commonly seen in primary care", Quick Reference Guides (QRG's), patient information leaflets, and an extended formulary table. Prodigy is "an evidence based, fully referenced resource that can be used to develop care pathways, protocols and patient group directions."
*PubMed Clinical Queries
This page provides specialized PubMed searches for clinicians; pre-set filter categories, designed by RB Haynes et al. to enable efficient searches of studies by (therapy, diagnosis, etilogy and prognosis) and to focus or broaden a search by selecting the specific or sensitivitiy filters. It also includes Systematic review searches and Medical genetics searches across the Medline database. Provides references only.
*Research Centre for Transcultural Studies in Health - Evidence based practice
Based at Middlesex University, School of Health and Social Sciences, London the site includes full-text teaching and learning resources for evidence based practice.
*TRIP database plus Turning Research Into Practice(syntheses and studies)
Allows users to rapidly and easily identify high quality medical literature from a wide range of sources. Contains evidence-based records, clinical guidelines, clinical questions & answers, eTextbook articles, medical images, patient information leaflets & over 13 million peer-reviewed journal articles.
