Introduction

The Document Services Unit supplies materials to libraries worldwide. You can search Voyager, our online catalogue, or Kinetica, a charged service, for the library's holdings.
We will lend most books, videos and microform items from our collection, however journal volumes are not available for loan.
Individuals from academic institutions or corporations may order items through their library's Inter-library loan or document delivery service.
Members of the public may place orders through their local library.

Submitting a request

We will accept requests in most formats, as long as they are complete and legible.
Acceptable methods of transmission are:

• Web request form
• Mail (using ALA, IFLA or ACLIS forms)
• Fax
• Ariel (Email or FTP)

Please note that copyright provisions must be observed and compliance to s50 of the Australian Copyright Act must be stated on your request. In particular, the Australian copyright law prohibits photocopying more than one article from the same issue of a journal, unless unless the articles are for the same research or course of study.

About our turnaround time

If the item requested is on our shelves, we will normally be able to dispatch your request within 2 working days (and often within 1 day). Please remember, that due to the nature of our mail system, most items are sent from the library mail room to the University mail room, adding a day or so to delivery times.
Of course, mail delivery times to overseas locations will vary, but you can be assured that your request will be dispatched quickly and sent by airmail.
If your request is urgent, please let us know and we will treat it accordingly.
Turnaround time on photocopy requests is much quicker due to the alternative means of transmission available, including Ariel and fax.

Ordering theses

Institutions in Australia

We will lend copies of Flinders University theses to institutions in Australia for the standard $13.20 charge.

Where a second copy of a thesis is not available, we will provide a microfiche copy of the thesis for $80.00, including postage. A copyright declaration/order form must be completed and returned before your order is processed. Note that prepayment will be required.

Please let us know if you would prefer a paper copy and we will forward a quote. You should also specify whether you would prefer colour copies of illustrations, maps or photographs which may be included. Please note that prepayment will be required.

Institutions outside Australia may order microfiche copies of Flinders University theses for A$90.00, including Airmail postage. Delivery time is approximately 4 weeks.
A copyright declaration/order form must be completed and returned with prepayment (in Australian dollars) before your order is processed. Please note that theses are supplied as Microfiche.

Payment may be made by cheque (in Australian dollars and drawn on an Australian bank), Visa Card or Mastercard. For credit card orders, please include the card type, card number, name on card and the expiry date.

Rare Books

Rare books in the Flinders University Library collection may be available for short term loans to other libraries. Please contact us with your request and we will let you know whether the item is available for loan. If an item is not for loan, we may be able to copy the section you require.
Please note that items lent from our Special Collection must be read under supervision in the borrowing library.
